first_imgThe National Parks and Wildlife Service in Donegal has been slammed amidst claims that they are ruining the livelihoods of farmers in Creeslough. It follows the destruction of an embankment which had protected the farms of farmers in the area last year.Donegal County Council had received finding to rebuild the embankment but the NPWS said it is not satisfied with the reinstatement. Cllr John Sheamais O’Fearraigh claims the response of the National Parks and Wildlife for its red tape measures which he says are ruining the livelihood of many farmers in Creeslough. The Sinn Fein councillor said
”During the storms of last year, the embankment which protected these land from the elements of the sea was washed away. These agricultural lands have been left unusable, ruining the livelihoods of farmers in the area.”“Donegal County Council had received funding to rebuild the embankment this year, only to be informed by the National Parks and Wildlife that they are not happy with the reinstatement. This in turn will hold up the project indefinitely. The position adopted by the National Parks and Wildlife is tying this project up in red-tape, and ruining these farmers livelihoods.“I would ask that Minister Joe McHugh, as he the person with responsiblity for this section, to immediately step-in and put a stop to this fiasco. This embankment protected these lands for over a hundred years. This project aimed simply to reinstate what has been there before and let these farmers get back to providing for their families.”  RED TAPE IS RUINING FARMERS’ LIVELIHOODS IN CREESLOUGH – CLAIM was last modified: October 18th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:CreesloughdonegalNational parks and Wildlife servicelast_img
